History & Design
The 152 E. High Street space has been a Pottstown landmark since it was built in 1770. It was previously a bank and in designing The Blue Elephant we ensured that all the original brass work, bank vaults and light fixtures remained intact to celebrate the building’s rich history. The space now also features a 10ft fountain at the center of the main dining room, Mediterranean olive trees and green tea bushes, velvet blue booths and light blue curtains draping the 30ft high ceilings.
The name for The Blue Elephant came to be from a collection of historic photos that hang in the lobby of the building. One of the photos shows a group of elephants walking down High Street. The photo inspired the same sense of fun and grandeur we wanted to bring back to Pottstown and was also the perfect tie-in, given the symbolic nature of elephants in many Asian countries.
